The WINSOC project (www.winsoc.org, www.amrita.edu/Winsoc) is a European Commission funded project to use wireless sensor networks to detect landslides and other natural disasters. The project was deployed in an actual landslide area in the town of Munnar, in the Western Ghats of Kerala. The Wireless Sensor Networks for Landslide Applications project is a continuation project funded by the Indian Governments Department of Information Technology (DIT). Personally responsible for the mechanical aspects of the project. Designed and implemented India’s first landslide laboratory test setups, equipment for the field deployment, sensor installations, and others. The Amrita Center for Wireless Networks and Applications is a multi-disciplinary center for research into applications for wireless networks. This center is focused towards advancing and applying technologies that will have a humanitarian benefit. Current research thrusts include environmental monitoring, healthcare, and disaster management. Responsibilities include the mechanical and robotics work, as well as guiding student projects.
